Push Ortho CMC Thumb Brace

The Push Ortho CMC is the original brace for thumb-base (CMC) arthritis, and the one hand therapists prescribe most. It stabilises the basal joint of the thumb and holds it in a functional position, so pain and loss of grip strength ease while the wrist and fingers stay completely free. You can type, cook, drive and garden in it.

How it works

A cylindrical section wraps the ball of the thumb; inside it, a shapeable aluminium strip lets the therapist (or you) fine-tune the support. A fixed strip runs along the palm to the outside of the hand and closes at the back with two non-elastic bands. It covers very little of the palm, so it can be worn under a glove.

Who it's for

Osteoarthritis at the base of the thumb; CMC joint instability; anyone whose pain is at the base of the thumb rather than the wrist. If the pain runs along the thumb side of the wrist, a thumb spica may be the better choice — see our guide.

Sizing

Measure the circumference of the palm at the knuckles (excluding the thumb). Choose left or right.
