SecurPlast is the low-temperature thermoplastic Australian hand therapists reach for when a splint has to hold its shape. It softens in a water bath at about 65 °C, drapes and moulds easily, then sets rigid and strong with excellent memory. It resists unwanted stretch while you work, so it forgives a slow mould, and it stays latex free for skin-friendly, long-term wear.

Who it's for

Adult and paediatric static and dynamic splinting; post-burn and post-surgical positioning; any pattern you'd normally cut from a 46 × 61 cm sheet. Clinics buy it in multiples because one sheet yields several hand-based splints.

Choosing a thickness

• 1.6 mm — finger and thumb splints, paediatric work, anything where low profile and light weight matter.
• 2.4 mm — the all-rounder for wrist and hand-based splints; strong enough for most adult forearm-based designs.
• 3.2 mm — elbow, forearm and load-bearing splints, and larger patients.

Solid or perforated?

Perforated sheets breathe, weigh less and suit long wear times and warm climates. Solid sheets give the strongest, smoothest splint and are easier to trim cleanly at the edges.

Colours

Black, Metallic Blue, Light Blue and White. Colour doesn't change the material; many therapists keep black and blue for adults and white for paediatrics.

Open finger or closed finger?

• Open finger (fingerless) — the everyday choice. Fingertips stay free for typing, phones, cooking and fine work, and the seamless design keeps stitching away from the tender base of the thumb.
• Closed finger — covers the fingers to the tips for compression right through the hand, usually worn during rest or overnight.

Who it's for

People with rheumatoid or osteoarthritis in the hands, post-injury or post-surgical swelling, Raynaud's, or anyone whose hands ache after a day's work. Unlike rigid compression devices, Isotoner gloves can be worn during activity as well as rest.

Sizing

Measure around the knuckles (excluding the thumb) and use the size guide in the product images. Sizes X-Small to Large. If you're between sizes, take the smaller one — compression depends on a close fit.

Splint edges, brace straps, prosthetic sockets, wheelchair contact points, bony prominences — cut a piece to shape with scissors and it conforms to the body, absorbs shock and shear, and won't freeze, melt or leak.

• 3.2 mm — splint and brace linings where bulk matters.

Like Orfit™ Classic SECURFIT PRO™ becomes transparent when heated (65-70°C) and super strong when cool. SECURFIT™ defies fingerprinting and cools to a beautiful smooth finish. Pro thermoplastic splinting material can be used to make a variety of orthoses, providing firm to lightweight support and is similar to Aquaplast™.and Securplast SecurFit Pro has 100% memory and turns transparent when completely heated. You will find that this product has a little bit of flex and is patient compliant.

Characteristics

MEMORY:
100% memory- easily returns to its original shape and size when reheated.

RTS: Minimal to moderate resistance to stretch. Can be used for single-surface splinting or stretched circumferentially.

DRAPE: Maximum drape. Excellent conformability and detail reproduction. Turns transparent when completely heated and retains its clarity for the first few minutes of molding, allowing visibility of landmarks and bony prominences.

RIGIDITY: Moderately rigid splints. If a more flexible splint is required, simply stretch the material to achieve the desired rigidity and thickness.

BONDING: Coating needs to be removed for permanent bonding- use dry heat.

SURFACE FINISH: Resists fingerprints for a smooth, shiny surface. To remove marks and bring out shine, dip in warm water or lightly heat the surface with dry heat.

Latex Free Skin friendly and non-irritating. Can be disposed of with normal waste and will biodegrade over time.

Choose from three thicknesses: 1.6mm, 2.4mm, or 3.2mm.
