What are Splinting Products?
Our splinting products include anything required for creating a splint for an injury, as well as supporting the therapist and patient through the process. We provide the materials needed, and the tools required to make the splint making process as smooth as possible.
One of our most popular products is our thermoplastic splinting material. The thin sheet of plastic, upon heating, becomes soft, stretchable and conformable to the body. When hot, this material may be moulded to the preferred shape to form a splint for supporting limbs through an injury. When it cools, the thermoplastic becomes hard and retains its original rigidity. Thermoplastic splinting has many benefits for the patient, such as easy application of a smooth and comfortable splint, increased protection for the injured area, and increased functional use of limbs. The therapist may benefit from the ability to tailor each splint to the specific patient.
Splinting Products
Total Patient Care is a leading supplier of high quality hand therapy products, and we aim to provide a full range of necessary splinting material and accessories to provide you with everything needed to care for your patients. We offer the following:
- Thermoplastic Sheets - This section includes all our available whole thermoplastic sheets. We currently offer 5 different materials: SecurPlast, SecurForm, SecurEze, SecurFlex II, and SecurFit Pro. Some of these materials are available in different colours, and all are available in varying widths and perforations to meet your needs.
- Thermoplastic Precuts - We provide precuts for those who may not have the time for the pattern making process, or who want to save space or materials through purchasing the ready-made splint for tailoring to a particular patient. This section includes some of our available thermoplastic precuts, including the Resting Pan Mitt and the Resting Pan Functional Splint. Other patterns are available upon request. Contact sales@totalpatientcare.com.au for more information.
- Splinting Instruments - We have several different splinting instruments available including various cast spreaders, plaster shears, forceps, and scissors. For a complete tool kit that includes all instruments needed for constructing your own splints, contact our Sales Team. We also offer foam arm support to hold the arm at a comfortable elevation during treatment.
- Splinting Accessories - Listed in this section is a small selection of our hook and loop range, our compression and splinting fabric and wraps, and wire for constructing outrigger splints.
Hook and Loop for Splinting - For splinting, we recommend our Secur-brand Hook and Loop, both available in three colours, for securing splints in place. We also supply an adhesive hook roll made of a heat activated rubber for maximum strength or to save time when strapping. Also available is a double sided loop which offers soft, cushioned support and mates with any hook material.
Fabric and Wraps - Our powernet is made of an open weave, mesh, breathable fabric that can be used as a compression garment prior to splinting. Our totalprene and neoprene are available in a variety of colours and styles, ideal for padding or constructing splints. We offer Nustim wraps for compression, Orficast thermoplastic tape for constructing simple finger splints, and splint socks for under thermoplastic splints to prevent irritation.
Choosing the Right Splinting Material
Total Patient Care supplies five different types of thermoplastic splinting material, each with their own benefits and suitability to different projects. Because there are so many different options available, it can be a heavy task to choose the most suitable thermoplastic material for your specific needs. Factors to be considered include your preferred thickness of the material, whether it should be solid or perforated, and the properties required of the thermoplastic. We’ve put together a short guide to help you choose the thermoplastic that would best suit your needs.
We currently supply SecurPlast, SecurForm, SecurEze, SecurFitPro, and SecurFlex II available. Our Secur brand Thermoplastic sheets can be used for almost any splinting application. Ideal for adult and paediatric positioning, dynamic and static splinting for hand, wrist, elbow injuries, and for post-burn and post-surgical care. You can cut our thermoplastic whole sheets into your preferred splint pattern, or order pre-cuts which are available in a range of patterns and sizes.
Our thermoplastics have a smooth surface finish that resists fingerprinting. Fingerprints and other marks can be smoothed away by rubbing the surface gently while the splint is warm. All leave sealed, smooth edges when cut warm.
Our SecurPlast material in metallic blue and black is our most popular thermoplastic. This material has very good memory, able to return to its original shape after moulding, meaning this material is the best thermoplastic to be reheated and reshaped. SecurPlast is also available in white and light blue, with the option of plain or perforated for each.
For larger splinting applications, we recommend using SecurForm for its strength and high conformability. Alternatively, SecurEze is ideal for making large splints for patients with strong joint contractures due to its rigidity.
We offer various perforations on our thermoplastic sheets, and while all perforated materials can be used for all sorts of treatment, there are benefits of using different percentages that are determined by the treatment, or personal preference of patient and therapist. Generally, a perforated rather than solid sheet allows for some ventilation and increased comfort, though a solid sheet provides maximum support.
Non-toxic and latex free.

Why use a perforated material rather than a solid one?
Perforated material may not be as strong as solid material but there are advantages to using the perforated, such as allowing for ventilation. Perforated materials also soften up faster when heated. They can still be used for the same braces.
Are Secur brand thermoplastics reusable?
Our Secur brand thermoplastics can be heated and reused or remolded repeatedly.
Are Secur brand thermoplastics biodegradable?
Most thermoplastic material is not biodegradable.
Why so many different types of thermoplastic?
All our Secur thermoplastics have different properties, making them suitable for different applications. Contact our Sales Team for more information into the different properties of these sheets.
