SecurPlast is the low-temperature thermoplastic Australian hand therapists reach for when a splint has to hold its shape. It softens in a water bath at about 65 °C, drapes and moulds easily, then sets rigid and strong with excellent memory. It resists unwanted stretch while you work, so it forgives a slow mould, and it stays latex free for skin-friendly, long-term wear.

Who it's for

Adult and paediatric static and dynamic splinting; post-burn and post-surgical positioning; any pattern you'd normally cut from a 46 × 61 cm sheet. Clinics buy it in multiples because one sheet yields several hand-based splints.

Choosing a thickness

1.6 mm — finger and thumb splints, paediatric work, anything where low profile and light weight matter.
2.4 mm — the all-rounder for wrist and hand-based splints; strong enough for most adult forearm-based designs.
3.2 mm — elbow, forearm and load-bearing splints, and larger patients.

Solid or perforated?

Perforated sheets breathe, weigh less and suit long wear times and warm climates. Solid sheets give the strongest, smoothest splint and are easier to trim cleanly at the edges.

Colours

Black, Metallic Blue, Light Blue and White. Colour doesn't change the material; many therapists keep black and blue for adults and white for paediatrics.

SecurForm Thermoplastic Sheets

SecurForm is the forgiving all-rounder among low-temperature thermoplastics. Minimum-to-moderate stretch means the material does what you ask and not more; moderate drape gives good contour under light pressure; and because it has only minimal memory, you can reheat and adjust a splint a few times without it thinning or shrinking. A powder coating gives it a slightly tacky feel that holds it in place while you work.

Who it's for

Hand therapists and orthotists making static and dynamic splints for adults and children, and post-burn and post-surgical positioning. If you are new to splinting, or you train students, this is the material to start on.

Choosing a sheet

2.4 mm: lighter, more drape; finger and hand-based splints.
3.2 mm: more rigid; wrist, forearm and larger splints.
Perforated (1%) for airflow on splints worn for long periods; solid for maximum strength and a clean surface.

Working with it

Handle it flat and form in a gravity-assisted position with smooth, gentle movements. A wet bond holds firmly but can be pulled apart once cool; dry-heat two surfaces for a strong bond, or scrape off the coating and dry-heat for a permanent one. Edges self-seal, so splints look finished without extra work. Beige resists fingerprints and stains.
